For the newest activity in Ethnic Relations class, Mr Ahmad needed us to conduct a forum. Each from 13 groups will sent a representative as a panel. Because there are so many panels in the class, the forums have been conducted into two sessions. Each of the panels given 3-5 minutes to told about their appointed title.

1. What are the goods and bad effect of colonial period?
There are many good and bad effect of colonial period. The good effects are the colonial provided protection to country that they have colonized from being attack by others. Colonial period also show a great development in modern technology such as using of gun and bullets instead of bow and arrow. Besides that, colonial era helps to develop industries. Before this, local people depend on their people only to sell their product. But, the colonial have helps them to sell their product worldwide, for example, Portuguese needs spices in their food and British needs ore to makes tin cans. Colonial period also show a great achievements in health care and education.
The bad effect of colonial period is local people are suffering. The colonial seized their belongings and they recklessly kill people. Their freedoms also are greatly reduced because colonial control their movements. Besides that, the foreign also brought disease to local people and causing widespread sickness and death.
2. Does colonial period gives impact on economy aspect? How?
Yes. First, colonial period have brought in modern technology. For example, for centuries, local people using method call ‘mendulang’ to collect ore. But the colonial brought in machines to fasten and effectively more efficient to collect ore. So, economy will be boost. Second, colonial period introduce local people to new industry with is rubber. Rubber at that time is so expensive and of course, it gives impact on economy aspect. Besides that, new industry leads to job opportunity and job can help to improve economy.

1. What are the methods used by British to rule Tanah Melayu?
British intervention in the affairs of the Malay states has led to the transfer of administrative powers of the Malay rulers to the officers appointed by the British to administer and manage all administrative aspects of the Malay states except the management of the Islamic religion and customs of the the Malays.
This intervention in turn led to a full occupation of the Malay states under British control. Submission of this made voluntary by the Malay rulers with only a false promise of a small pension granted by the British government.
The other method that used by British is racial segregation that involving 3 major races in Tanah Melayu. Malay people were placed in the village while the Chinese were in place in urban and mining areas. While the Indians were place at the estates.
2. How political Scenario in Tanah Melayu during colonial era?
During the colonial period, politics in the Tanah Melayu became chaotic because of the Malay leader fighting for power among themselves. Even the smallest problems will lead to great controversy. There is no understanding among them and they had to cooperate with the colonial to get back their leadership and power. This resulted in indigenous land rights among Malay people.

What are the factors of colonial period?
The main factor is economy. Due to the development of the Industrial Revolution, the British colonies need to get materials and market their goods industry. Canning industry, especially after the creation of canning technology have boost their economy and British need new land that capable to supply raw materials continuously and Tanah Melayu have been colonized for it natural recourses. Second factor is concerns over foreign powers established in the Malay states. British are worried if other powers take over Tanah Melayu. So, they take initiative to rule Tanah Melayu in order to protect their interests. Besides that, there are also other factors like to show the huge power such as Japan and command from the highest such as Portuguese.

What is the effect of colonial period to Malaysian’s politics, economy and social?
From politics perspective, local people learn how to voice up their thoughts by Union. Besides that, the political power of the Malaccan Sultanate helped Islam's rapid. The weakness of the Malay states in this period allowed other people to migrate into the Malay homelands
From economy perspective, the colonies have introduced new industry such as rubber, cacao, and ore and it had been our main economy income. Colonies also brought in modern technology to help raise product. Besides that, there are new job opportunity for local people.
From social perspective, the colonies brought in new people from others country to work with them. So, culture clash occurred. There are new application in our culture like Baba nad Nyonya and ‘India Peranakan’. Our country becoming rich with unique culture and it gives impact on social aspect where local people able to interact with new people and share thought, ideas, knowledge and interest.

HOW THE PORTUGESE GET IN MALACCAIn 1511, the ViceRoy of India, Afonso de Albuquerque, decided to organize an expedition destined to conquer Malacca. At the head of 1.100 - 1.200 men and 14 ships, Afonso de Albuquerque arrived in view of Malacca in June of 1511 and immediately demanded the rescue of the Portuguese that were taken prisoners in the 1509 expedition. .25 July 1511 the Portuguese attacked the town but they lost and retreat.
On 10 August 1511, the Portuguese renewed the attack. Albuquerque had the assistance of some Chinese junks that were anchored in the port. On 24 August 1511 the Portuguese again attacked only to discover that the Sultan had escaped. With Malacca was now in Portuguese hands, they sacked the town.
There are also other questions from other groups but the focus are nearly same with above question.
